RACE DAY!!

Today was the Southern Indiana Classic Half-Marathon. The event was held at the Vanderburgh County Fair Grounds and despite my attempt to arrive early I got caught in a long line of cars trying to get in. I finally was able to park at 6:50am leaving me 10 minutes until the start of the race! Not exactly how I had planned it, but I managed to stretch some and be ready to start the race. The course was really pretty and wound us through northern Vand. County. There were some hills, especially at the beginning, but overall it wasn't too bad. I was able to keep up with the pace I had set for myself (15min. miles) for the first half or so. I started to slow down around mile 9 and the last 2 miles were the worst. My legs were hurting pretty bad by then. Nathan and Amber were waiting for me at mile 10 which gave me a good boost. As I crossed the finish line Dad and Eileen were there also. All in all it was a successful day and I am glad I was able to attain the goal I set for myself back in January. I actually enjoyed it and I hope to be able to complete another half-marathon and improve my performance. I included a picture of me with my medal for finishing.
